Planning Your Safari

When planning your safari the following points should be kept in mind:

  • Decide on a date for your safari and contact the office for availability. A minimum deposit of $ 1 000  is required to confirm your booking. All payment details are explained in our “Payments” section.
  • Ensure your passport is valid at least six months after your expected return d
  • Submit all the required Documents to info@idubesafaris.com
  • Contact Henry Durrheim, of Rifle Permits to help with your temporary importation paperwork and rifle permit application.
  • Be sure you agree to our Terms and Conditions
  • Refer to our Packing List for a suggestion of what you should bring on your safari.
  • Prepare for the trip of a LIFETIME!
 

CLOTHING

​It is unnecessary to pack excessive clothing because laundry services are provided daily. Three changes of clothes are perfectly adequate for any length of stay. If you are planning to combine a hunting and photographic safari the same clothes can be used for both.

Our suggested list of clothing:

  • Four shirts – two long-sleeved and two short-sleeved (olive green or dark khaki)
  • Four pants – two long trousers and two walking shorts
  • Light-weight hunting jacket
  • Light to medium jacket for wear around the camp fire at night
  • Light raincoat
  • Five sets of underwear
  • Sweater or Sweatshirt
  • Wide-brimmed hat
  • Five pairs of socks
  • Two pairs walking shoes for hunting days in the bush
  • One pair comfortable shoes for wearing around the lodge
  • One pair of gloves for the crisp mornings

MISCELLANEOUS

  • Personal toiletries
  • If making use of contact lenses or glasses, an extra pair is recommended
  • Insect repellent
  • Good quality sunscreen (at least SPF 50)
  • Lip balm
  • Reading material
  • Personal tobacco products
  • Any personal medication (it is advisable to keep a copy of your prescription with you)

EQUIPMENT

  • Light weight binoculars – preferably 8 x 32
  • Camera – with spare batteries and memory
  • Be sure to ensure your equipment for travel abroad
  • Day Bag – small bag for carrying personal items
  • Flashlight – pack extra batteries
  • Soft Gun Case​
  • Sunglasses

  • Minimum rifle caliber  to be used on plains game is .270 and for big five hunting the minimum caliber size is .375. 
  • Cartridges available and commonly used are: .308, .30-06, .300, .375, .416
  • Most shooting will not exceed 150 yards.
  • ​​Please zero your rifle at 100 yards.
  • If you do not own a rifle and would like to come on a hunting safari, please contact us for alternative options.
  • Day of Arrival and Day of Departure are non-hunting days. These are the days we’ll pick you up and drop you off at the airport. And is required for every hunt.
  • Bow hunting requires a minimum of 10 days.
  • All donations bought are valid for 2 years.
  • All hunters and observers are required to complete the Idube Safaris Indemnity Form as well as the online Outfitter Questionnaire before commencement of the safari.
  • A client is considered a hunter when harvesting 3 or more animals. This does not apply to dangerous game.

CANCELLATION POLICY

There will be no refund on any deposit paid.

NO CREDIT WILL BE GIVEN ON DAYS NOT USED AND TROPHY FEES NOT USED THAT WERE INCLUDED IN THE DONATION.
